The setting of the story is out in the woods in a log cabin. It is importent to the story because the charater Matt does hunting and fishing out in the woods. The log cabin is importent because that is where Matt gives his lessons to Attean. Also that is where he cooks.
Matt is teaching Attean how to read. Sometimes Attean gets mad at the story because an Indian and a White Man are working together. Attean thinks they shouldn't do that. The setting is different from today because Matt has omly one room in his house. Also he has to hunt and his house is a log cabin.
I agree kittycat32, The setting in the story is in the deep forest down north in a log cabin. It is very important to the story because Matt can go fishing and hunting right outside of their cabin. Also in the log cabin Matt gives Attean lessons on how to read. He also teaches Attean the alphebet and makes words for every letter in the alphebet. Mostly Attean and Matt usually stay outside or in the log cabin in the story. At one part I just read Matt and Attean went to an other womans log cabin to get Atteans dogs injury fixed.

Kittycat32,
What is Matt teaching Attean in the cabin? How is the setting of this story different from how you live today?
