I thought the ending was happy but serious. The war ending with them winning was very happy, and so was the Jews being able to come back. When Annemarie asked her dad to fix Ellen's necklace she said she'd wear it until she could give it back to Ellen.I think thet sounds of serious.
I thought the ending was sweet and very heartwarming, but i think the saddest part was when the author really told you how lise died which was by being in the resistence and the nazi's finding their secert meeting location and then running over lise which was very sad i thought it was one of the saddest parts of the book. The book was heartwarming because Ellen and her family were able to come back and the city of Denmark won the war. I also think that the ending was also sad because Peter died. I really thought the ending was going to be a little bit different, but I was wrong.
I agree with you.Now that I really think about it when her parents tell her the truth about Lise's death is sort of sad.So I guess the ending is happy but serious in some parts and sad in some parts.
