the mood of this story is depressing, because Ellen is Jewish like her parents and her parents went somewhere and she has to stay with her friend annemarie. That's depressing because having your parents leave you, makes you feel sad. My next reason is when officers just barge in the Johansens house to see if any Rosen were hidden, because the Johansens and the Rosens were good friends. Thats sad, because an officer bargeing your house looking for somebody just so they can capture them.
I think the mood is terrified because the nazis keep popining up in th story. A nazi poped up and grabbed Ellen's hair. That is what I think the mood is.
A mood this book gives me is curious. It makes me curious because there are soldiers everywhere. A soldier comes to Annemarie's house. Ellen is jewish, and the Johansens are letting her stay at their house because they waqnt Ellen to be safe. The soldiers are looking for jewish people. So it makes me curious if Ellen will get taken away.
